It started already with the first the look at the map. Tian San, Pamir, Hindukus… We had the chance to visit the first one last year, the second one this spring but what about the third one? The one with this mysterious name, the one where to Czech expeditions in the 60th and 70th aimed; driving for a few months with big trucks more less cut off from the world back home?
“And about going there?” we both had a temptation to having a closer look at it. „Dude, that´s already in Afghanistan, before any travels I always calmed everybody at home that I would not go to this country… We need some research on this.” The researched has shown that Wakhan corridor,
We drove along the Pamir Highway from Kyrgyz Osh to Tadjik Khorog, crossing passes 4200 metres and 4600 metres high. Ponorka – our car – could sometimes hardly catch its breath but did a great job. Surprisingly, we got the Afghan in an hour and from the information we got along the way it follows that “vsjo normalna” – i.e. the situation is calm. We even learned that earlier this year a Swiss Ski Expedition attempted Noshaq earlier this year. Due to lots of snow they did not get to the summit.
We are heading to the same valley. It’s located right behind the borders at the other side of the Panj valley so we will go there as backpackers. While re-packing our stuff on the Tadjik side of village Iskhasim we kept looking at the Panj River, which makes the border, and snow covered Hindukush behind. Somewhere there, not far from us, those elegant shapes of Gambez-E-Safed are hiding in clouds next to the guard of the valley – Noshaq. It’s time for big mountains, it’s time for big adventure!
